The opening of the newest Hampton Coffee Company espresso bar & café on the North Fork in Aquebogue raised more than $1300 for a local charity in one day. It was all thanks to the generosity of our Fans which came out to what we dubbed the “Super Secret Preview Opening” of the new Riverhead outpost –an event which took place a day before the official Grand Opening Day which was announced to the public.
We promoted the charity Preview Opening Event to our Fans only, with signs in our current stores and posts on our social media channels. “We are a local community business and it’s our 22nd year here on the East End,” said our company co-owner Theresa Belkin, who is also managing the Aquebogue location. “We owe our success to our loyal Fans who support us day-in and day-out, so we came up with this Secret Preview Opening Event as a way to show our Fans how much they mean to us all while supporting our community by raising money for a local charity.” We plan to continue this model with future new store openings.
In addition to being able to check-out the newest Hampton Coffee location like a VIP, a day before everyone else, Fans were treated to their choice of any coffee or espresso bar beverage for free for the entire day. There were also prizes and fun social media activities. In exchange, staff suggested that Fans makes any size contribution to a special donation jar on our counter.
By the end of the day, more than $1300 in donations from Hampton Coffee’s Fans had come in which was then donated to a local non-profit organization named HUGS. HUGS Director Kym Laube is a Hampton Coffee Fan and was the one that told the company about this (formerly) abandoned garage on the side of the road with a “For Rent” sign out front. And the rest was history, so it was only fitting that her organization would benefit from this event.
HUGS is a not-for-profit community-based youth organization which provides educational and recreational programs for middle and high school youth on the East End. HUGS also facilitates conferences, workshops and educational programs with the emphasis on drug and alcohol prevention and leadership training and runs a youth drop in program on the South Fork.
