Hampton Coffee Installs East End’s First Commercial Alternative Wastewater Treatment System Upgrade

Hampton Coffee Company has become the first business on the East End to upgrade our septic system to a new nitrogen-reducing Innovative and Alternative Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (I/A OWTS).  Already environmental leaders in the community, we made the upgrade at our 24-year-old flagship location on Montauk Highway in Water Mill with the help of a grant being offered by the Town of Southampton and a loan from BNB Bank.

“All of us at Hampton Coffee live in this community so the environment around us is not only important to us as a company, but personally as well,” said company co-owner Jason Belkin.  “We already made the switch to paper straws in response to our staff and guests’ concerns and we’ve been recycling for years.  This is amazing that now we are turning our wastewater into basically the quality of water that comes from your backyard hose.  We’re really proud to be making this difference.”

All of our local cafés are Green Cafés with LED lighting, recycling programs, oil recycling, compostable java jackets, and more.  Our Water Mill café even features solar panels with a monitor inside the café so our guests can see a demonstration of the electric being made in real time.

The system we chose is the state-of-the-art Singulair system by Ohio-based Norweco, one of the systems approved by Suffolk County.  Singulair automatically treats the incoming wastewater, returning harmless effluent to the environment in just 24-hours.  Even better, this system operates only 30-minutes every hour, using half the energy of other systems.

Keeping it local, we chose all local companies to complete the installation.  Perry DeLalio of SFA DeLalio based in Southampton was the site contractor and Precision Excavation from Quogue and Gene Berry was the septic installer.
