Hampton Coffee Company Donates Coffee To Ground Zero Workers

Posted on December 29, 2001 to News

Within days following the attacks on September 11, the Specialty Coffee Association of America asked roaster members to respond to the need for at least 72,000 pounds of coffee to be served to volunteers and professionals assisting in the rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero at a special "Coffee Break" table located right on site. Named "SCAA Coffee Cares NYC 2001", the coffee table provides a needed break for those making a difference in Lower Manhattan.

Hampton Coffee Company, which has its company roastery in Water Mill, responded to the call for coffee donations right away, sending more than 100 pounds to New York City, valued at more than $1,000. But the company, which also has a year-round Espresso Bar & Café in Water Mill next to the Green Thumb Farmstand and a seasonal spot on Main Street in Westhampton Beach, went beyond the call of duty, making arrangements with their packaging supplier, North Atlantic Specialty Bag of Pennsylvania, to put the coffee in patriotic Red, White, and Blue foil bags. The SCAA coordinator said workers at Ground Zero enjoyed Hampton Coffee Company's donation of its famous Hampton Classic Blend during November.

Hampton Coffee joined more than 82 SCAA members in this effort, which so far have donated 42,000 pounds of coffee. Owners Pepe Martinez and Jason Belkin pride themselves on making a difference in the local community right here and are very proud to have been part of this effort to help those in the city affected by this disaster. Locally, Hampton Coffee Company participates in fundraisers for organizations like Boys Harbor, The Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mill Neck Manor School For Deaf Children, and many more.

Their company roastery is located at 869 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. They roast estate grown coffee from around the world daily and anyone is welcomed to arrange for a free roasting demonstration and coffee tasting most Wednesdays. Call ahead at (631) 726-COFE or send an e-mail to for a reservation.
