Stay Healthy With Local Honey

Honey can be particularly beneficial during the winter months due to its antimicrobial properties, which may help boost the immune system and provide some relief from common cold symptoms.  Hampton Coffee Company is proud to feature hyper-local honey on its “Shop Local Shelf” from Honey Rocket Apiaries.  The Southampton company is a part-time passion of long-time local Patrick Lenahan.  Patrick has hives in Water Mill, Noyack, Sagaponack, Southampton, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, and Montauk.  Interestingly, the color of the honey is determined by the blossoms the Honey Rockets are collected from -buckwheat blossoms make a deep, warm dark-colored honey while wildflowers create a lighter-colored honey.  At Hampton Coffee Company, we feature honey made from all of his hives so shoppers can choose the shade and town of the honey that they’d like the most.

A long-time local company itself, we started our Shop Local Shelf a few years ago to help other growing local businesses have an outlet to sell their handmade products.  There is a shelf in each of our six cafes that feature everything from Patrick’s Honey Rocket raw honey to handmade coffee mugs by Simply Made to local nut butter by the women duo at Peppered Fern.

In addition to its beneficial immunity properties, honey is a great natural sweetener, a source of energy, and may help improve digestion.  And we think that some honey mixed with a little cinnamon makes for a delicious and healthy Hot Caffe Latte too!
