You might not realize it, but your Hampton Coffee Cold Brew and other iced favorites are now being served in an Earth Cup! Earth Cups are the 100% biodegradable, compostable, and plant-based alternative to single-use plastic cups. They are made with corn resin and degrade into soil in only 90 days. What's more, in addition to reducing our plastic waste, with this switch to composable plastic, Hampton Coffee Company is able to support a growing local company. Earth Cups is the invention of two just-graduated Long Island college students who started this company to save so much plastic from the landfills.
Currently, all Hampton Coffee Company's large beverages are served in Earth Cups, with the remaining cups we use being replaced by Earth Cups later this year. In addition to the quick composting, what we also like about Earth Cups is that the cups require 50% less energy and water to produce than traditional plastic cups.
Reducing single-use and plastic waste has always been high on the agenda for our local coffee company. After all, we all live here too! We've been offering reusable straws and cups for years with a discount on refills. This Spring we also replaced all our bottled water with the Zenwater brand which used 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic to make it's packaging.
